Dos Capel geological trail – a museum out in the open air!

The Dolomites: a variety of landscapes and extraordinary geological phenomena!

The area where the rocks of the Dolomites were formed was situated more southerly of its current position - somewhere between the tropics and the equator! From deserts to tropical islands, volcanoes and the depths of the sea: traces of these ancient areas are found in the rock of the Dolomites and the Dos Capèl route has many, many traces to show. Do you think you’ll be able to find them? Follow the signs and with a little careful observation, you too can learn to read the rocks like a book. You will find beaches and sea beds, shells and starfish that lived before the dinosaurs, and “cooked”, folded and broken rocks. You will find flint, a much sought-after material in the prehistoric period, walk on the lava, ash and lapillus of the ancient Predazzo volcano, and you will get to know the enigma of the Green Stone and much more besides.

YOU CAN CHOOSE 3 WAYS TO EXPLORE IT:

• walking freely along the three routes and discovering the signs and features;
• going to any of the WANDERING SHOWS or making some NATURE WORKSHOPS;
• THE DOLOMITE GEOLOGICAL TRAIL can be accompanied - in the easiest section, with the Play book "SPECIAL GEOLOGY AGENT" plus the KIT (with hammer, magnifying glass, gloves…) to go on a fantastic field trip, with tales, quizzes and drawings.

WENDSDAY

from 24th July to 21st August 2013 "ROCK COLLECTING WITH ROCKY THE ROCK!" MORNING (11.00-13.00) 
Meet up at 10.45 at the Passo Feudo Refuge (arrive by gondola lift + chairlift from Predazzo). Special meeting with the famous star, "Rocky the Rock" who will show you, exclusively, the secrets of rocks and minerals on a short walk along the Geological Trail. The Rocky the Rock character (amazing guide from the Dolomites Geology Museum) is played by actor Emma Deflorian from the Arjuna Association, Tesero. Walk length: 1h30’. Easy. No prams or pushchairs. Organised by the Museum of Sciences of Trento.

FRIDAY

from 21st July to 13th September 2013 "GEOLOGICAL TRAIL" MORNING (10.30-12.30) Meet up at 10.45 at the Passo Feudo Refuge (arrive by gondola lift + chairlift from Predazzo). At Doss Capel, along the Dolomites Geological Trail, the rocks and fossils will tell you all about the sea (followed by the workshop: REAL and LEGEND). Your guides on this excursion will be the fun animators, Elena and Guido. Walk length: 1hour 30 minutes. The excursion is easy but not possible with prams or pushchairs. Possibility to eat at the refuge. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: "Walking with mum and dad" from Sentieri in Compagnia.
