Discovering the Latemar atoll: a magnificent fossilised archipelago in the Dolomites,
a World Heritage Site!
Every Wednesday from the 7th July to the 25th August 2021
Meet up at 9.30 am at Passo Feudo reachable from Predazzo with the Predazzo-Gardonè cable car + Gardonè Passo Feudo chair lift or from Pampeago with the Latemar chair lift and then on foot to Passo Feudo.
Every Wednesday from 7 July to 25 August you can join an exciting geological field trip in collaboration with Latemar MontagnAnimata, Latemarium, the Geological Museum of the Dolomites in Predazzo and the Muse science museum in Trento.
You start at the Feudo Pass and continue along the Coston del Latemar to the Torre di Pisa refuge to discover the submerged flank of an ancient island that emerged 240 million years ago from the Triassic sea. But you won’t be alone – you will be guided by an expert geologist and mountain guide to explore the heart of the atoll up to the col of the Forcella dei Camosci and through the depths of a tropical sea back to your starting point. It is an impressive circular route of medium difficulty and incredible beauty.
Duration: 6 hours – Difficulty: medium (EE) – Difference in altitude: 800 metres
Equipment required: hiking boots, waterproof/windproof jacket, batteries.
Minimum age: 12 years
Where: start at Feudo Pass Refuge at 2,200 metres then follow trail no. 516 to the Torre di Pisa Refuge (2,671 metres) and continue uphill to the Forcella dei Camosci. From here descend towards the Oberholz chairlift along trail no. 18 to an altitude of 2,150 metres, then follow trail no. 22 back to your starting point.
